Mal's Config Problems
I’ve been trying all morning to get my new store site to work, but to no avail.
When I put the buy button links in directly, they work just fine. But when I try to use the e-buy button action, it’s not working. I keep getting the error message that says, Freeway Config…Sorry, it was not possible to load your new configuration. It can’t connect to my webserver.
I’ve double and triple checked that the web url listed in freeway and mals is the same. I don’t know what else to try.
question: I’m not uploading this site via freeway. I’m using transmit. Might that be the cause of my problems? (Whenever I try to upload w/ freeway I’ve been getting ftp errors, but transmit’s been working fine).
curiosity: in my document setup freeway wants to add a "/" at the end of my url. I’ve tried deleting it, but it keeps coming back. I’m having the opposite problem on the mal’s site, it won’t let me end the url with a "/", so it keeps taking my / away. Is this difference enough to trip up the entire system?
The only other thought I have is that my url is listed as http://www.domain.com/business/store/home.html I’ve read on the mals site that it can have problems when it’s not at the route level, but like I said all my direct links are working fine, just not the ones using freeway actions.
Sorry for the long post. And thanks for any direction!

Hi Doty,
This problem could be caused by a renamed config file. Could you log on to your web space through Transmit and make sure that the file called malsettings.cfg is
a) in the store folder (this is where Mals has been told to look for it when you entered yor URL) and
b) hasn’t been renamed to malsettingsa.cfg, this is automatically done by Freeway if you publish to a folder, scrap that design and re-publish a new design to the same folder. If it has just rename it malsettings.cfg on the server and re-test your store in the browser.
Try these and let me know how you get on.
As for the FTP errors in Freeway, could you retry and check Save FTP Log and Passive FTP mode. The log will be saved in the folder ~Users/Library/Logs/Freeway 4/FTPLogs.
Could you also copy and paste the transcript that Transmit produces (in the bottom panel) when you connect with that. Both applications use the same protocol so there shouldn’t be any difference between the two.
Could you terhn send these to me at supportATsoftpressDOTcom.
Cheers,
Joe

14 Aug 2006, 3:30 pmJoe,
Thanks for getting back with me. The file has NOT been renamed as you mentioned. But, I have a malsettings.cfg file located in a ton of places (including the store folder). It’s also in the root folder (1), in the site folder (2). In other words I have three copies of it. I’m so confused.
As far as the ftp errors in freeway, I’ve tried toggling the passive mode (which didn’t help). I’ll try again later. I’m not sure what you mean by the "transcript that Transmit produces." The only thing I see at the bottom is a scrolling list of what it’s uploading. I’ll poke around a little more and see if I can find some sort of log. For what it’s worth, I’m using Transmit 3.5.3
Thanks again Joe. I appreciate your help. Doty

When you upload does the root of your site appear at "http://www.domain.com/business/store/home.html" ? If this is the case then "http://www.domain.com/business/store/" is what you should your site address to in the document setup.
If you can’t get this to work it is probably best of you get in touch with Anna and Joe our support team (email@hidden) and they will help you get to the bottom of your problems.

14 Aug 2006, 10:58 pmThanks for this suggestion, Alan. This is not how I had it set up, so I switched it, but it’s still not working.

16 Aug 2006, 7:39 pmThanks to Joe’s help, I learned that Mal’s can’t handle capital letters in a url.
Thanks for the help everyone. Doty

27 Feb 2008, 12:41 pmI’m dusting this old topic down because I have the same problem with a “Freeway Config…Sorry, it was not possible to load your new configuration. It can’t connect to my webserver” message.
I’ve checked the malsettings.cfg file has no ‘a’ appended and I’ve no capitals in the URL. I thought I had done everything by the book, but I have obviously missed something - probably so simple it’s staring me in the face!
Any suggestions form ‘mal’s’ experts would be welcome, please. All buttons use the Freeway Action and you can find the site at http://crystalclearmemories.co.uk
It’s not quite complete but the page you need to look at is ‘shapes’.
Why is it that the simplest sites often give the biggest headaches?! (:-0

28 Feb 2008, 1:09 pmAll smiles, now. Managed an initial fix using numerical url. And a complete fix, with the original settings, simply by switching from a Windows to a Linux server! But don’t ask me why!
