Freeway Moments: The Next Generation
I’ve uploaded a new FreewayMoment - this one dealing with the CSSMenus Action
http://www.softpress.com/support/freewaymoments.php
I’m hoping to be able to add more over the coming weeks. Any requests can be posted here and I’ll see what I can do.
Moments will be short, so long, rambling episodes are less likely to be made than ones which can deal concisely with the subject. This isn’t a final state of being - I’ll take any suggestions onboard and see what I can do.

12 Jun 2008, 8:59 pmGood work Paul. Classy music, as always, along with easy to understand instructions.
Also much love goes out to Screenflow.
Thanks for making the video.

Screenflow seems to be a great little app - it made putting that one together a much less resource intensive task.

12 Jun 2008, 11:21 pmHmm, Podcast…….where have I heard that idea before… ;-)
Nice job Paul. My thinking as far as what to cover was along a more advanced usage line presenting a basic intro to every mainstream (non developer usage) action available. That may be a conflict of interest for you and Softpress, but that is something i’m sure most everyone would like.
Other than that, time needs to be given to explaining CSS styling within Freeway, especially covering extended style options. A more advanced subject to be sure, but a frequent issue here.
I wouldn’t worry about trying to cover a complicated example all in one episode. A good podcast example would be Photoshop For Video. It frequently breaks the episodes down into 8 to 10 min chunks about once a week.

I had no problem finding it and i’m in the US, in fact not far from Big Ern. Just go to iTunes Store and search the podcasts for Freeway.

13 Jun 2008, 12:31 amEh? Okay I’ll do that. The “not available” message came up when I clicked the link at the Softpress website.
Thanks chuck :-)

13 Jun 2008, 10:01 amHi, I’ve fixed the URL on the page now. The latest episode is also on YouTube.
chuckamuck - extended CSS stuff could be on the cards - however the initial task is to keep to new and existing Freeway functionality. However, if there are any specifics of extended CSS attributes (which is a large subject in its own right), then let me know.

Perhaps if enough Freeway users subscribe, it’ll get into the Top Podcasts lists, and all those other people will see it and check out Freeway, making it a breakout product! ;)
Paul,
I must compliment you again on this. I was watching the Google Maps one, and I realized what a great job you are doing. I’ve seen software training videos that people pay for where the announcer stammers, pauses, says “uh” a lot, etc. You do none of this, and Softpress and you should be very proud of the professional job you are doing. Yet, it’s not so “professional” like some other podcasts that it seems cold and unfriendly.

20 Jun 2008, 11:45 amJoe, you won’t believe how many takes it takes to get rid of the “errs” and “ums” at times! I’ve sped the whole process up by recording the “doing” and not recording the talking. The talking is recorded later. I found that doing talking, controlling the mouse AND being mindfully aware of what I’m up to (call it stage fright if you want) causes my brain to fall over itself and I stammer. So, the commentary is recorded afterwards, and this helps relieve some of the intrenal stress.
I’m glad the result is as you describe it. That’s what I have been aiming for :-)
Thanks for the kind words on this subject, all. I’d better get back to the next one now…

20 Jun 2008, 3:43 pmOne comment Paul, there is a visual size difference between the earlier Moments installments and the new podcast versions. Any plans on redoing those so that all episodes look equally good?
