QuickTime will be needed to watch the movie yes. The poster frame will
still be displayed and a message will appear saying that QuickTime
needs to be installed to watch it.

Ah! Great stuff! That is indeed up-to-date information. Thanks Joe!
Does it mean QT needs to be installed on people’s pcs or can it be
 done nowadays without?

They deleted one of my movies because they found a bit of background
music that was not registred or something…. wow….

Hmm. But that should help calm the fussy parents and school board, right? :-)

Actually I used Brightcove before. They deleted one of my movies because they found a bit of background music that was not registred or something…. wow….

Sometime around 19/8/08 (at 08:00 -0400) paulvw said:

On a homepage I need to place a small movie of 194 pixels wide. The
movie is about 10 min. Since it is a ‘chique’ school YouTube etc is
not an option - no names allowed from free services.

That’s a strange distinction. I wonder if Brightcove is blocked?
http://www.brightcove.com - That’s a rather more grown-up alternative
to YouTube for embedding streaming Flash video content in sites.

Using a video-hosting service such as YouTube (etc.) means that the
load on the main site’s server is massively reduced. Depending on the
hosting deal this can mean the difference between getting extra
bandwidth bills or not.

Anyway, you can either use a Flash video solution, of which there are
a number (others can point them out), or use QuickTime .mov files.

The QuickTime route assumes the visitor has QT installed, but of
course every Mac user and also every PC user with iTunes or an iPod
or iPhone (which require iTunes) has QuickTime whether they like it
or not.

I tend to use QuickTime and stick it to the rest. ;)

I would suggest you check out the instructions below. They are mostly about the iPhone, but what is there about video works on desktops, too. You’ll need Freeway 5.2 to do it. As a bonus, all those chic students (and parents?) will have an option that is optimized for their iPhones. The instructions for video are on the last two pages.

I know that there are many ways to place a movie on a webpage, however waht would be the best option in my case?
On a homepage I need to place a small movie of 194 pixels wide. The movie is about 10 min. Since it is a ‘chique’ school YouTube etc is not an option - no names allowed from free services. It just got to be ‘clean and simple’. Flashmovie? Or are there other options?
Thanks folks
